About the Author

David R. Hardoon is head of analytics at SAS Singapore, where he is responsible for the positioning of business analytics capabilities and solutions to customers across different business sectors. Dr. Hardoon is also an adjunct faculty member in the School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University and an honorary senior research associate in the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning at University College London. His research interests include developing and applying computational analytical models for business knowledge discovery and analysis in areas such as taxonomy, neuroscience, aerospace, and finance. He earned a PhD in computer science in the field of machine learning from the University of Southampton.

Galit Shmueli is a SRITNE chaired professor of data analytics and associate professor of statistics and information systems at the Indian School of Business. She is the author of 70 journal articles, references, textbooks, and book chapters in statistics, management, information systems, and marketing. Her research and teaching focus on statistical and data mining methods for contemporary data and applications in information systems and healthcare. She earned a PhD in statistics from the Israel Institute of Technology.

Excellent detailed biblical commentary. Wide source of theological views for consideration with D.A. view summarizing in most cases the most widely accepted literal explanation.

In the process of studying the writings of John I kept seeing various commentators making reference to Carson. I have a friend who is also a big fan of Carson's works so both of these things influenced me to buy this work. This book actually exceeded any expectations I had. I cannot decide what is the best work on John but it is certainly between F.F. Bruce and this one.First I would like to say that Carson is very articulate and exact. He is not given to fanciful fits of imagination of clumsy exegetical comments. He is a real scholar who approaches the topic with class and sensitivity. The book started with him giving a synopsis of past hundred and fifty years of scholarship on John. He systematically deconstructs and dismantles every objection to the authorship of the Apostle John. He does this in a cool and calm manner that takes all views into account while exposing the weaknesses of the methodology espoused by Bultmann and his school of thought. This part of the work was colossal!Carson proceeds with the narrative with reserve and caution. He talks about a variety of views and usually shows their strengths and weaknesses pointing out the one he thought was most likely. He has mastery over New Testament Greek and his command of the language makes his ideas even more plausible. There are areas where he is unsure and he leaves those areas open with a few possibilities but usually he discusses why he favors one over another. He never resorts to belittling or running another view down but always proceeds with a cool-headed approach to theology.This book is unique because he achieves a strong balance. For those who are well-versed in the Gospel of John they will find this book to be a great addition to their library and will no doubt acquire some things to add to what they are already know. At the same time, it is not an overwhelming work and one could hypothetically read this book without any previous background to John's works and still walk away with valuable insights into the overall theme of John's Gospel.I would like to offer some criticism as I often do for other works but I really can't think of anything that was big enough to bring up. It is accessible, theologically sound, well argued, exhaustive, and professional all the way around. He deals with some delicate theological issues and does so without resorting to dogma like Sproul did in his work on John. Overall, this is a must for your library. I would say that this and Bruce are two of the best works out there on the subject. Carson offers great advice for young preachers who are preaching John to their people for the first time and great devotional reflections. It is a big work so be ready to labor working your way through it but it is worth it!

DA Carson is an absolute genius when it comes to gospel exposition! I have gotten through the 17th chapter of John in this book and I am nothing short of amazed at how easy it is to understand and how enjoyable it is to read. Dr. Carson has been a true blessing to me through this book and I whole heatedly recommend it to all!

The vast array of sources referenced gives the reader confidence that Dr. Carson has comprehensively interacted with the material. He is fair in his treatment of opposing interpretive views, yet definite in his own conclusions.The flow of thought is coherent and the writing style articulate, although I admit consulting my English dictionary once or twice. Because his treatment of the Greek text demonstrates scholarly precision, yet does not require knowledge of the language, I recommend this commentary to laymen and academics alike.Dr. Carson adheres to a historical-grammatical method of hermeneutics that well supports his evangelical outlook. I especially appreciate his consistent appeal to the context and logical flow of the book as a guide to judging between interpretations proposed by various commentators.Richard L. This has been incredibly helpful in writing inductive Bible studies on the book of John. I highly recommend it as a member of the clergy. Excellent resource with insights into the Gospel of John. DA Carson does a good job and has a number of other commentaries one might want to add to their collection.

This is perhaps the best commentary on John for preaching and teaching purposes. While it still a choice for many scholars, it is easily accessible for preachers with less academic prowess. Carson, also, does a fine job presenting different interpretations even handedly, and sharing the strengths and weaknesses of these various positions. While I do not always agree on the position he arrives at it is a tremendous help to have the positions not accepted by the author treated fairly.

I like this because it presents the same material as the NIV commentary from a different point of view. This is more directed at scholars. I have difficulty with Carson's style of presenting differing opinions. It is not easy to follow.

Since this book is a required text for a college course, the review can be limited. It is a little outdated since the laws and way things are done have changed since print in 2008. If not needed for college course- try to find something more updated. Author is very good and book is easy to follow with practice test and answers. I gave it 5 stars because it delivers what it is, a 2008 print book. I think it would be unfair to try and downgrade it because it is not have a later print. It fulfills for what it is for the time it was written for.

Its a text book for college courses. If you think it is going to be anything other than that you are confused. It will help you pass a state realtor's exam but there are probably better ways to prepare.I got this book because it was required for a course I was taking.

I ordered this book for my real estate course and nobody can tell me what happen I never received the book that status never changed from October 2013 the status still says shipped. Now where this book is I don't know, It never made it to my address I highly doubt anyone knows what happen to it but all I know is that I will not be doing business with this "company" again

This book sets out clear instructions of the game of shogi. I like that it also gives a brief overview of the origins of the game. I especially like that the writer gives insight to strategy without bogging the reader down too much. Plus, if I didn't own my own shogi board and pieces, the book has paper sets to practice with in the back of the book.

I have been playing shogi with some friends for a little while, but I really wanted to brush up on my skills and try to develop more advanced techniques. Having read this book, I feel like a more confident shogi player. Mr. Leggett walks through the basics of shogi pieces, with the focus on how to effect mate with those pieces. Then dropping pieces is introduced. From there, Mr. Leggett works the player through basic strategy before showing championship games and the strategies used there.As an introduction to shogi, I think this book is a good effort, but is somewhat rough around the edges. The does pretty well in walking through the very basics, but starts to jump into advanced strategy without covering mid-level strategy much. Mr. Leggett has many useful mottos and pointers to keep in mind (you need X number of pieces to drop to effect mate, Y number if you have pieces promoted), and some of these have been helpful with my own gameplay. In addition, the basic pointers on how to mate an opponent have actually helped me to win games since reading this book.My only complaint (hence the 4 stars) is the focus on specific games, and not enough examples of general strategy. Also the length of the book is somewhat brief. I feel that each section could use some more expansion, particularly the later sections.In any case, I think this is a fine book, and a good read for anyone whose new to shogi, or wants to brush up on their skills. I think this book is good for rounding out one's knowledge of shogi.

As a beginner of Shogi, this does help a lot. To learn the pieces and to learn how to play certain tactics. Hopefully this helps others as well :)

This has been the best resource if you're and English only speaker and want to learn shogi. Coming with its own board to practice and going into plays that professionals vs new comers do makes it very useful.

A fine manual that covers the rules of Shogi as well as a primer on tactics and mating solutions. If you already understand the rules and objectives of the game, perhaps your time and money would be better spent elsewhere.

For a beginner this is solid (and you don't have many other choices), so get it. Though, tell you the truth, it wasn't as indepth as I hoped. You can probably get more from youtube vids.
